Science 4 A/B
Segment A of Science 4 teaches that science helps us make sense of our observations from the outside world. Students learn that matter can be described based on its physical properties, and those properties can undergo change. The earth system changes constantly as air, water, soil and rock interact. Humans use these resources on earth, and conservation of those resources results in a healthier environment.
Segment B reinforces students’ knowledge of energy, teaching it exists in many forms and can be changed from one form to another as it moves through a system. Students will expand their understanding of force—learning that magnets and electricity produce related forces. A force is required to change an object’s speed or direction. Students will begin to move toward a biological understanding of their world as they learn that all living things share basic traits. All living things are made of parts that have specific functions, different characteristics of plants and animals help some populations survive and reproduce in greater numbers, and genetic traits are passed on and help living things survive in different environments.
